DR DAVID GREENBERG, CEO AND FOUNDER OF EAVE, SHARES THE STORY OF HOW EAVE CAME TO BE
Our mission at Eave is to eliminate the isolation and loneliness caused by hearing loss.
Having worked as an NHS Clinical Audiologist and as a Research Audiologist, I have seen first-hand the profound impact hearing loss can have on a person’s life. I have had patients who have given up careers, developed depression, and who have simply lost the joy of human interaction as a result of their hearing loss. Even with the provision of hearing aids, for many people every day is a struggle to engage with friends and family. I was inspired to establish Eave as I constantly saw people whose deafness was preventable having been caused by noise at work. One of those people was my grandmother who lost her hearing during World War II working in a factory in London during the blitz, a story I share in greater detail here.
Even today, many people like my grandmother still face the same risks to their health from being exposed to noise at work. We know that passive ear defenders, used by millions, simply don’t work. They are effectively a blindfold for people’s ears that puts workers at risk of accident, injury and even death. As a result, many don’t use them properly, allowing some outside noise in, and this noise leads to hearing loss. You can find out more about the impact of noise on health here.
At Eave we are proud to have created the technology to prevent occupational deafness. Eave’s innovative ear defenders allow you to dial down the noise around you, but still hear environmental sound and take part in conversations. More than that, Eave’s software means that you can literally see the noise on your work site allowing you to effectively manage and control it.
